Frequently Asked Questions

Can anxiety completely go away?

Anxiety and other difficult feelings are natural, and when life is balanced they typically come and go, much like the weather. However chronic, stuck patterns of struggle and anxiety can indeed go away. I know this is true because I’ve lived it in my own life, the science shows it, and I see it with my clients every day.

I’ve tried to change my struggles in the past but nothing seems to help. How is coaching different?

First of all, I’m sorry to hear of the difficulties you’ve been dealing with. Coaching is unique in a range of ways, but probably the single most salient point is that coaching is ‘present based and forward moving.’ This means we don’t focus on trying to fix difficulties from the past, rather we ground solidly in the here and now and make a journey forward. Regarding painful content and difficult emotions, we relate with them directly in the present, not trying to erase or fix them, but treating them with respect, honesty, and clear seeing. This is the way forward.

Coaching is a pro-active, generative approach, with a focus to create your life based on your inherent wisdoms and strengths. It’s powerful because it’s based in a whole lot of research on how people actually achieve successful positive change.

What is your coaching style like?

I have a simple, direct and clear style. A friend once said, “More than anyone else I know, with Craig, what you see is what you get.“ People feel they can trust me, which allows more freedom and ease with the coaching process. During sessions I hold an open and caring space, which helps clients trust themselves more and deepen their growth and learning. I have a tremendous appreciation for the coaching process, and for the honour of being able to share in my clients’ journey.

Is anyone ‘uncoachable?’

Ultimately no. Relatively yes. Meaning, if someone deeply believes they can’t change for the better, and is more committed to that belief than they are to putting in some sincere effort, it’s unlikely they will make much progress. But once that person is willing to at least test the possibilities of deliberate positive change, everything opens up.

Can coaching help heal trauma?

Coaching is not designed to heal trauma. Having said that, trauma in no way means someone can’t benefit from coaching, or that coaching can’t help trauma. As long as a person is able to stay with the forward-moving process of coaching, trauma is not an obstacle. But if the trauma keeps pulling the individual back into the past and preventing movement forward, coaching is not helpful.

How do I know if coaching is the right approach for me?

Coaching can be of benefit to anyone who is seeking deliberate positive change. If and how much it helps depends on a lot of different factors, and the truth is that you won’t know until you experience it for yourself. But in general, if you feel a strong motivation for change and are committed to the process, coaching can be powerful and life changing.
